The Moyal Medal Committee and Macquarie University Faculty of Science and Engineering are pleased to invite you to the Moyal Medal Presentation and Lecture to celebrate the achievements of this year's medallist, Professor Nalini Joshi AO FAA FRSN of the University of Sydney.
The Moyal Medal, awarded annually by Macquarie University, honours distinguished research contributions in mathematics, physics, or statistics. The medal pays tribute to the late Professor José Enrique Moyal, one of Australia's most remarkable scientists, whose pioneering work across mathematics, physics and statistics had far-reaching impact in all three disciplines.
The 2026 Medallist, Professor Joshi, is Chair of Applied Mathematics at the University of Sydney and one of Australia's most distinguished mathematicians. Professor Samuel Muller, Executive Dean of the Faculty of Science and Engineering at Macquarie University, will present the 2026 Moyal Medal to Professor Joshi.
Professor Joshi's lecture, titled Mathematics for Quantum Era Security and Trust, will explore how mathematics underpins the technologies reshaping our world. As governments and companies invest heavily in quantum computing and artificial intelligence, her research examines emerging concepts such as quantum money, quantum computers and quantum devices. The lecture will explore the opportunities and challenges these technologies present, and why mathematics is central to addressing them.

The formal program will run from 6.30pm to 7.30pm. Guests are warmly invited to arrive earlier from 5pm for poster showcase featuring research from students in the Mathematical and Physical Sciences, along with networking and refreshments.
