The Moyal Medal Committee and Macquarie University Faculty of Science and Engineering are pleased to invite you to the Moyal Medal Presentation and Lecture to celebrate the achievements of this year's Medalist, Professor Tamara Davis AM of The University of Queensland.
The Moyal Medal, awarded annually by Macquarie University, honours distinguished research contributions in mathematics, physics, or statistics. The medal pays tribute to the late Professor José Enrique Moyal, one of Australia's most remarkable scientists, whose pioneering work across mathematics, physics and statistics had far-reaching impact in all three fields.
The 2025 Medalist, Professor Davis, is an astrophysicist at the University of Queensland's School of Mathematics and Physics. Professor Samuel Muller, Executive Dean of the Faculty of Science and Engineering at Macquarie University, will present the 2025 Moyal Medal to Professor Davis.
Dark energy represents one of the greatest mysteries in modern astrophysics, despite making up around 70 per cent of the universe. Professor Davis's lecture, titled ‘New light on dark energy: the mystery deepens’ will explore her research using thousands of supernovae and millions of galaxies to map the cosmos over the last 10 billion years. She will discuss the surprising discovery that dark energy may be changing with time, challenging our understanding of the universe's expansion and the anti-gravity properties.
The formal program will run from 6.30pm to 7.30pm at 17 Wally's Walk, but guests are warmly invited to arrive earlier for poster presentations featuring research from students in the Mathematical and Physical Sciences (5pm to 6.30pm). To celebrate 25 years of the Moyal Medal, please join us for networking and refreshments (5.45pm to 6.30pm) before the lecture begins.
Please note the Student Poster Presentations, networking, and refreshments will be held in the foyer of 12 Wally's Walk.
