Date:
Friday 3 July, 10am - 12pm
Location:
Meet at entry to Barangaroo Metro Station
Description:
Join us for a stroll through the reimagined Barangaroo Reserve on Warrane/Sydney Harbour. From the 1860s, this section of the Gadigal people’s sandstone Country was progressively cut away to create space for roads and wharves. Over time, the entire headland was obliterated and replaced by a wasteland of asphalt and concrete. As part of the 2006 concept plan for the wider Barangaroo Precinct, an imagined version of this headland was created and now functions as a popular city park with 75,000 native trees and shrubs and impressive harbour views. As we walk around and then up and over the headland, commentary will be provided about the phases of the site’s environmental history from deep time to gasworks and container terminal, and how they led to the artificial “natural” landscape that exists there today. For more information, see Barangaroo Timeline
