The 57th Australian Entomological Society Conference

From Backyard Bugs to Outback Wonders

7 - 10 December 2026 | Macquarie University | Sydney

We are delighted to welcome you to the 57th Australian Entomological Society Conference, in Sydney. The last time the AES conference was hosted in Sydney was in 2001, and we are thrilled to bring it back—this time to Macquarie University.

The conference will feature 4 keynote lectures, 1 public lecture, full-length and lightning talks, posters and plenty of networking opportunities in a friendly and inclusive setting.

Whether your interests lie in taxonomy, developmental biology, genomics, pest science, neurobiology, behaviour, conservation, virology, microbiomes or biomimetics, you will find that the conference has a vibrant program that reflects the breadth of our discipline. And if you enjoy observing wildlife in the field, Sydney offers an extraordinary range of habitats—from suburban bushland to the Ku-ring-gai Chase, Blue Mountains, and Royal National Parks. For those who prefer to stay close to the venue, you’ll be pleased to know that more than 1,300 species of insects and arachnids have been recorded on the Macquarie University campus alone. With 126 hectares of parkland and natural bushland, it is truly an entomologist’s paradise.

Our 2026 theme, From Backyard Bugs to Outback Wonders, celebrates this remarkable diversity and the many ways Australians engage with the arthropod world.

We hope this conference will appeal to everyone in our community—students and seasoned researchers, hobbyists and industry partners, colleagues from government agencies, schools, and local councils. For some of you, this may be your first conference; for others, perhaps your twentieth! Whatever your background or experience, we look forward to welcoming you to Sydney for an inspiring and memorable conference.
