The organisers of APSA 2021 are from the Discipline of Politics and International Relations in the Macquarie School of Social Sciences, which includes:


Dr Sung-Young Kim (Chair)

Dr Sung-Young Kim (Chair) is Senior Lecturer in the Discipline of Politics & International Relations at Macquarie University, Sydney. 

He is a political scientist currently leading a project on 'The Sources of Competitive Advantage in Exporting Green Energy Systems', which examines why, what and how East Asian governments and corporations are promoting new high-tech green energy industries. He is also one of four Chief Investigators on an ARC Discovery Project examining the political drivers and obstacles to clean energy transitions in Korea and China. 

His work has been published in Review of International Political Economy (2012, 2019), New Political Economy (2012, 2020), Global Policy (2013), Politics & Society (2015), and The Asia-Pacific Journal: Japan Focus (2016). He teaches courses on International Political Economy, International Relations, and the Comparative Politics of East Asia.

Dr Francesco Stolfi (Co-Chair)

Dr Francesco Stolfi is a Lecturer in the Discipline of Politics & International Relations in the School of Social Sciences, Macquarie University, Sydney.

His research is on the political economy of public policy, with a focus on the conflicts over the regulation of professions and labor markets in a variety of political systems. His research has been published in journals such as Comparative European Politics, Governance, Journal of European Public Policy, Journal of Public Policy, Public Administration and Review of International Political Economy.

Dr Jumana Bayeh (Co-Chair)

Dr Jumana Bayeh (Co-Chair) is Senior Lecturer in the Discipline of Politics & International Relations at Macquarie University, Sydney.

She is the author of The Literature of the Lebanese Diaspora: Representations of Place and Transnational Identity (I.B. Tauris, 2015) as well as several articles on the Arab diaspora. She co-edited the recently published Democracy, Diaspora, Territory: Europe and Cross-Border Politics (Routledge, 2020).

She has held research fellowships at the University of Toronto (2014), University of Edinburgh (2013), the University of Copenhagen (2011), and the Lebanese American University in Beirut (2007). 

She is currently working on two projects, one that examines the representation of the nation-state in Arab diaspora literature from writers based in Australia, North America and the United Kingdom, to illustrate how the nation reimagined by this transnational community, and another ARC-funded team project looking at the global resurgence of riots.

Associate Professor Ian Tregenza (Co-Chair)

Ian Tregenza is an Associate Professor in the Discipline of Politics and International Relations at Macquarie University, Sydney.

His research interests include the intersection of religion and political thought and the history of secularism. He has published widely on the history of Australian political and intellectual history and is the author (with Stephen Chavura and John Gascoigne) of Reason, Religion and the Australian Polity: A Secular State? (Routledge, 2019).

Kelli-Lee Drake (Conference Secretariat)

Kelli-Lee Drake (Conference Secretariat) is the Disciplinary Administrator for Politics & International Relations in the Macquarie School of Social Sciences, Macquarie University, Sydney.
