Professor Debbie Haski-Leventhal 
Macquarie Business School 

Debbie Haski-Leventhal, our Keynote speaker from Macquarie Business School will be asking what can universities do to create a stronger contribution to the world? Higher education institutions need to discover how they can create societal impact beyond providing degrees and generating research. Debbie discusses the emerging movement of purpose-driven universities, in which leadership, faculty and students work together to shift from being best in the world to being best for the world. She dives deeply into emerging concepts such as impactful teaching and learning and universities as a force for good.

Dr Michael Donovan 
Macquarie School of Education 

Dr Michael Donovan is a member of the Gumbaynggirr Nation and Academic Director, Indigenous Education, at Macquarie School of Education and Keynote speaker. He has been involved in Aboriginal education since 1992, working from schools through to university. Lectured across a wide variety of Indigenous Studies topics and currently building strategic directions for embedding Indigenous Knowledges at Macquarie University. He is a Life Member of the NSW AECG and has been a community elected board member on various NSW Aboriginal organisations.

Associate Professor Kathleen Tait 
Macquarie School of Education 

A/Prof. Kathleen Tait has held consultation and tertiary appointments in Australia, Brunei Darussalam, Hong Kong SAR, Mainland China, and Japan. Prior to entering tertiary education, Kathleen held classroom teacher, Early Intervention Centre Director, and State Advisor positions with EDQLD. She is an Honorary Affiliate of the Australian Institute of Special Educators. Kathleen was commissioned by Oxford University Press (OUP) to be an editor/author of the 2022 text: Diversity, Inclusion and Engagement. Since its first edition, this text has been listed in OUPs top 10 best-selling books both nationally and internationally.

Dr Sue Silveira 
Macquarie School of Education, in affiliation with NextSense   

Dr Sue Silveira is the Course Director for the Master of Disability Studies which is offered by the Macquarie School of Education Studies, Faculty of Arts, Macquarie University, in affiliation with NextSense (formerly the Royal Institute for Deaf and Blind Children). Sue teaches and practices in the area of vision impairment. She is also a research fellow with the NextSense Institute and is the chief investigator on the project which has established the Australian Childhood Vision Impairment Register.

Professor Catherine Dean 
Faculty of Medicine, Health and Human Sciences   

Professor Cath Dean is the Deputy Dean of Education and Employability in the Faculty of Medicine, Health and Human Sciences. She has a wealth of experience in educational leadership in health professional education. Professor Dean adopts a servant leadership philosophy embodying her commitment to lifelong learning and reflective practice and the ambition to develop and empower students and colleagues to become outstanding health and research professionals - advancing the health of the individuals and communities we serve.

Associate Professor Albert Atkin 
Faculty of Arts   

Associate Professor Albert Atkin is the Associate Dean of Curriculum and Learning in the Faculty of Arts. He is also a member of the Philosophy Department and has ongoing research and teaching interests in the philosophy of race and racism. He also is a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and is deeply committed to equity and inclusion in learning and teaching.

Dr Prashan S M Karunaratne 
Macquarie Business School    

As the course director of the Bachelor of Commerce, Prashan endeavours to ensure that the teaching, learning, and curricula address students’ diverse backgrounds, needs, and ambitions. Commerce is weaved as a set of tools that can empower individuals to activate their goals, visions, and dreams in every sphere of life.

Dr Noushin Nasiri 
Faculty of Science and Engineering    

Dr Noushin Nasiri is the Head of the NanoTech Laboratory, and a senior lecturer at the School of Engineering. She is one of Australia’s 2021-2022 Superstars of STEM and the recipient of NSW 2019 Young Tall Poppy Science Award. She is an advocate for equity, diversity and inclusion, and a passionate science communicator who has received considerable outside recognition for her research including TEDx Sydney Salon 2017, TEDx Macquarie University 2019 and TEDx Bligh Street 2020.

David Chapman 
Faculty of Arts     

David Chapman is currently a PhD Candidate in the Department of History and Archaeology at Macquarie. In 2019 he was awarded The University Medal for Ancient History. His research focuses on formal and informal structures of power in New Kingdom Egypt. David sits on the Department of History and Archaeology Working Group on Approaches to Equity, Diversity, Inclusion and Accessibility at Macquarie University. He has cerebral palsy and passionate about increasing accessibility in academia.

Hannah Vogel
Faculty of Arts     

Hannah Vogel (she/her) is a sessional teaching academic at Macquarie University, an invited speaker and guest lecturer. She is researching disability and bodily differences in ancient societies, with her most recent research focusing on scholarly approaches towards disability and ableism in ancient world studies. She is an advocate for accessibility and working collaboratively and seeks to explore the lived experience of disability in the ancient past. Hannah also sits on the Department of History and Archaeology Working Group on Approaches to Equity, Diversity, Inclusion and Accessibility at Macquarie University.

Sophie Curtis
Diversity, Equity, Inclusion & Belonging Lead - Campus Life      

Sophie has worked in the University sector for over 12 years, currently at Macquarie University as the Lead - Diversity, Equity, Inclusion & Belonging for Campus Life, and Chair of the Ally Network Steering Committee. A natural influencer and leader, Sophie is committed to challenging organisations to expand their capacity to promote diversity and create inclusive environments. She initiates and advocates for programs that enhance the student experience and understands the positive impacts inclusion creates for student wellbeing and student engagement with University life.
