Jet lag is a common for people travelling flights that cross multiple time zones. It causes the body’s internal clock to be out of sync in the new timezone, leading to poor sleep, daytime tiredness, and trouble concentrating. This presentation will explain the science of jet lag and discuss evidence-based strategies to reduce jet lag.
Associate Professor Sveta Postnova is the lead of the Circadian Physics and Sleep Dynamics Group in the School of Physics, University of Sydney. Her interests are in brain dynamics and interaction between the brain, body, and environment.
Sveta uses methods from physics, mathematics, and data science to develop quantitative models of brain dynamics and unify those with experimental data with the aim to explain mechanisms and design tools for health monitoring and disease prevention.
